In the interest of keeping a better online garden journal, I’m participating in Garden Blogger’s Bloom Day this year. You can find a link to many other April gardens at the main Blooms Day post at May Dreams Gardens: http://www.maydreamsgardens.com/search/label/garden%20bloggers%20bloom%20day
…but a warning to my fellow Calgary gardeners, view them your own risk. It can be a bit depressing, especially at this time of year, to see how far our growing season is behind almost everyone else’s!!
Above: the patch of daffodils in the Front Entry Garden started blooming April 10. Daffs are great in my unprotected front garden because the hares don’t touch them – unlike tulips and many other things!!
Above, clockwise from top: Mixed squills in the Front Shade Garden; chinodoxa in the Back Shade garden; striped squill in the Back Shade Garden; a growing patch of blue Siberian squill in the Butterfly Potager.
Above: the honeyberries in the North Patio Garden have also been blooming for a week now. I appreciate them for being the earliest blooming and fruit-producing shrubs in my garden! They are perhaps not the tastiest of berries but great mixed with other things such as smoothies. My kids love ’em.
